Oh Baby Baby: Britney Spears Femme Fatale Tour

Last night Raleigh, NC had its face rocked off by the awesomeness of Britney Spears and her Femme Fatale Tour.

If you know me, you know I've been down with Britney since she was a brunette in track pants doing flips at car washes in her Baby One More Time video. My love is true. I even saw that movie Crossroads opening night when it hit theaters.

When Justin Timberlake dissed her in that Cry Me A River video, I defended her. I mean c'mon did she really cheat on him or was JT trying to get some press for his debut album?

Then came the K-Fed years and that God-awful reality show Chaotic. The head shaving, crotch shots, babies, lawsuits, me and Brit-Brit have been through it and not once have a missed a tour. I will travel across state lines and skip a cell phone bill, to support my Britney habit.

Don't get it twisted, just because I work in radio I'm never guaranteed concert tickets. I had to creep on Craigslist for last minute deals hours before the show and got a pair of tickets in the nosebleed seats and a friend willing to pay for their own ticket (shout out to Kerry!)

Eventually we made it to the concert and not only were our seats horrible, they were so high up, I would have had a hard time enjoying myself  and jamming sitting so close to Jesus in the sky. Luckily we got upgraded to lower level seats right next to the stage!

My sweet Britney brought it so hard. 90 minutes of up tempo, sometimes cheesy, sexy, fun music. Home girl actually sang y'all! I know she's supposed to sing but let's be real, we don't love Brit for her voice, and her latest stuff if techie auto-tuned jams. But I'm not there for the vocals, I love the beats, the songs, the dancing, the spectacle of it all and I make no apologies. I know she isn't for everyone. There isn't a lot of depth there, but you know sometimes you just want to see pretty people doing pretty things in pretty pink clothes!

Oh what you want pictures? Boom , I got ya! I caught Britney in all her glory with the camera I snuck inside the arena. Enjoy!

The set list had a great mix of her older hits and the new stuff. I was floored by her performance of "I'm A Slave 4 U." She it all the moves, and it was great seeing her re-create the 2001 hit. Yep, it's been 10 years!

The crowd was a mix of all types of people. Gay, straight, adults, teens, and the outfits were amazing. Since cameras were illegal I couldn't get as many photos as I wanted but I hope you liked the few I have.  What was the last concert you went to? Did you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Brit Brit? Discuss!

Until next time!

You Oughta Know: Armoire Boutique New Orleans

Hello my lovies!

I'm just getting home from an amazing visit with my lovely line sisters in New Orleans. It was my first time there and it was more than I ever thought it would be! The food, the people, the fashion, I'm in love with NOLA.

I was overwhelmed by all of the interesting shops and boutiques, and especially shocked when I saw the price tags on some of the items (handbags or $698, shoes for $500.)When balling on a budget, some find it challenging to look good and avoid looking like you just raided the clearance rack at that god-awful mall store Rave.

Luckily I found a shop that is not only affordable, it is fashionable, they have clothes sized from 0-20, AND the staff is amazing. The shop is called Armoire on Magazine Street. Now before you get all twisted and upset because you don't live in New Orleans, don't sweat it, you can shop online!

Dresses, tops, jewelry, handbags, they have it all! I didn't see anything in there over $100 and trust me, they have a lot.

How cute is this shop? Again, great prices and great customer service. We've all had those "Pretty Woman" shopping experiences, when you walk in and the staff looks at you like you don't belong, but not at Armoire. The ladies, (and gent) couldn't have been friendlier.

If you're ever in New Orleans, you must go by Armoire located on 4222A Magazine St.
Visit their site armoireboutique.com and be sure to friend them on Facebook.

I Never Thought I Would Say This....

I am obsessed with a piece of jewelry. Yes, me the girl who buys earrings for $1.50 at Forever 21. The girl who would choose a 55 inch HDTV over an engagement ring. The girl who would rather wear a  Keroppi watch from a Happy Meal instead of shiny timepiece. Yes my friends I want some bling in my life and it can be found at Tiffany and Company.

When I tell you I don't know anything about jewelry, please believe me. I couldn't tell you what a carat looks like or what it is worth, but I know where to get the best carrot cake in North Carolina (I'll save that for another post.) I do know I love the look of this necklace. This is totally my style, and even though I don't buy jewelry over $20, I'm tempted to treat myself this Valentine's Day.

Now before you think I've lost my mind adding something like this to my wish list, let me tell you this is pendant is under $250 a steal if you ask me. And because the price is right, you can afford to get some additional Tiffany inspired goodies! Check them out below:

Do you splurge on jewelry? What are some items on your wish list?
Until next time,

Hu's In The House

I won’t even attempt to be “fair and balanced” with this post. I love, love, love all things related to First Lady Michelle Obama. She’s brilliant, accomplished, has a beautiful family, is in phenomenal shape, and has impeccable taste. Not since Jackie Kennedy have we seen a First Lady with unique and contemporary fashion sense like Michelle Obama.

At the State Dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao, Mrs. Obama was stunning in a dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The dress was a rich red which represents courage, loyalty, honor, success, and fortune in Chinese culture.

Guests included politicians, Hollywood A-listers, and prominent Chinese-Americans.

Usually a guest chef is brought in to cook for State dinners, but Chinese delegation requested a “quintessentially American” menu and White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford delivered.

The Menu:

D'Anjou Pear Salad with Farmstead Goat Cheese
Fennel, black walnuts and white balsamic
Poached Maine Lobster, Orange glaze carrots and black trumpet mushrooms
wine--Dumul Chardonnay "Russian River" 2008
Lemon sorbet
Dry aged rib eye with buttermilk crisp onions
Double stuffed potatoes and creamed spinach
wine--Quilceda Creek Cabernet "Columbia Valley" 2005
Old fashioned apple pie with vanilla ice cream
wine-- Poet's Leap Riesling "botrytis" 2008

What do you think of the First Lady's dress?  Who is your pick for the most stylish First Lady?

2011 Golden Globes Recap

I apologize for being late with my Golden Globes recap. The broadcast was pretty uneventful, no major moments, no performances, and no remarkable speeches or upsets. So let's get to the important stuff, the fashion! The good, the men, and the "what the what?' Let's do this!

My pick for best dressed goes to Eva Longoria. I love this dress because I think it is flattering on almost any shape. I adore the cap sleeves, the deep v-neckline, and the classic black dress on the red carpet. Extra credit for the neat up do and minimal jewelry.

Ahh Claire Danes, always classy and so pretty in pink! Again I am a fan of the simple classic look at an awards show. Less is more. In 30 years we will look back on this dress and it will still be considered a stunning look.

Claire picked up a Golden Globe for her role as Temple Grandin produced by HBO.

Glee's Leah Michele in a lovely pink gown. I like everything about this look except the hair. A neater do would have made the dress the focal point. Either do a bold dress with a simple do, or a bold do with a simple dress. Doing both takes away from the overall look.

Mila Kunis...nuff said. Perfect, hair, perfect dress. Perfect 10

Glee's Diana Agron

  Halle Berry

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara

Vanessa Williams (how hot is she?)

Glee's Amber Riley

Kelly Osbourne & Julia Stiles

Catherine Zeta-Jones

And now the bad.....
Helena Bonham Carter

Sandra Bullock, bad hair, bad dress. It pains me to put her on this list

Anne Hathaway looks like she took a ride on a disco stick

Seal and Heidi Klum, why?
 Tina Fey
To quote the old man from Coming to America "What is that? Velvet?"

From Mad Men: January Jones and Christina Hendricks. Jones looks too severe, and Hendricks looks cartoon-ish.

And the worst dressed woman at the Golden Globes....

Gabourey Sidibe

Now ladies (and some gents, I don't judge) get ready for some eye candy!

The hotness that is Brad Pitt

Zac Efron aka My Heart

Robert Downey Jr.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Matthew Morrison

Jimmy Fallon
L.L. Cool J

I had to save the best for last.....

Blair Underwood aka Sir Chocolate

You know why I like Blair? He's handsome, talented, and seems to be a loyal hubby and father. Nothing hotter than a responsible man in my book!

If you actually care about the awards, check out the list winners and nominees here.

American Music Awards Fashion Recap

The times are a changing because I totally forgot about the American Music Awards last night. I think I was too busy recovering from the Harry Potter awesomeness. I tuned in just in time to hear Katy Perry struggle through that Firework song. Has anyone noticed her little on stage trick? No not the one where she distracts her audience from her "singing" voice with something exploding from her bra (in the past she's used confetti and whipped cream.) I'm referring to her use of "uh oh uh" as an excuse not to hold a note and crack on live TV.

Word on the street, I mean the BACKstreets (hee hee) is the best part of the show was the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys medley at the end of the night. Thankfully someone posted their performance on Youtube so I was able to get my groove on during the commercial breaks at work.

I don't know why I decided to skip the awards all together (I didn't even DVR it.) Maybe because these shows have become so predictable. Bad clothes, bad singing, movie/album plugs and the night ends with Taylor Swift singing a song about a dude who done did her wrong.

No matter what I think of the awards show, I can't let a chance to review the red carpet frocks pass me by so here we go!

The Good

I loved this dress on Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. I thought it was fun and flirty and I'm loving the blue and black from head to toe. It doesn't hurt that her body is amazing and she looks fit and healthy but still has some lovely lady lumps.

Jada Pinkett Smith looks like a goddess in her custom made Pucci dress. Her skin is flawless and the color of the dress compliments her  beautiful skin tone.

I prefer Tay-Tay's straight hair and short dress over the big curly hair and poofy dresses she usually wears.

For the first time in a long time Katy Perry looks like a lady! To quote Swizz Beatz, "Nails done, hair done, everything did."

It pains me to admit it but even Miley Cyrus couldn't mess up this look. She managed to mix the sexy with classy and the old school train works with the modern look of the dress.

The Bad

Christina Milian is one of the most beautiful women in the industry but she continues to wear fugly clothes! She needs a new stylist and agent because she deserves better.

This reminds me of those old curtains your Grandma would have in the living room straight from the JC Penny catalog. Mandy Moore, I know you're married to Ryan Adams, a serious indie artist and I love him and his moody melodies, but please remember your outfits don't have to match his music

Gavin did you even shower?

As crazy as this is, trust me it is an upgrade for Ke$ha

?????

And the Bieber

Isn't he dreamy?

Well there you have it. My AMA fashion review. Who are your picks for best and worst dressed?

Beautiful B.B.

Let's face it, I have some pretty awesome friends. Seriously, my friends rock my face off. One of my newest friends is Brie Reeder. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, she's also as sweet as can be. Brie is an accomplished esthetician, make up artist, model, and has even done some film work.

I met Brie and her husband Michael a few months ago at an event for a non-profit and we hit it off instantly. After a few exchanges via texts, and Facebook, we finally got together at their home where Brie did my make up for my True Blood event last month.

Brie used an air brush technique on my skin that made my foundation last all day, and it looked so even and smooth! It didn't even feel like I had make up on my face.

Here is the completed look (excuse the hair)

I am a little conservative when it comes to my make up. I wanted a natural look, and I got exactly what I wanted. Smooth, polished, and classy.

Here are some other examples of her work

Here is a make up tutorial she's posted for Iman Cosmetic's Leather and contest, yep she uses all kinds of make up, for all skin tones :)

For more info on my friend Brie, please check out her site Makeup By B.B., and follow her on TwitterFacebook! She's always willing to give tips and reviews of the best products out there.

You Oughta Know: Jen Chu

If you’ve ever been in my home, you know it is a huge work in progress. I have an idea of what I want my house to look like, but the execution has been challenging for me to do, especially on my own.

I am always looking for inspiration, and affordable design ideas online and I think I may have found my home interior DIY Yoda. Her name is Jen Chu and she is the truth! She refers to herself as an "Asian Martha Stewart, minus the prison activity". I stumbled across her blog last week and found out she was also featured on Apartment Therapy for a room makeover she did for a friend in Brooklyn.

From what I can see, Jen likes to ball on a budget, meaning she can bring a room to life without breaking the bank. A lot of the items in the room came from pocket friendly stores like Ikea, and Target, and she isn't afraid to hit up a flea market to save a buck or two. I think it would be awesome if she had her own TV show for real people, with realistic budgets, and I'd love to be her first guest!

Check out some of the pics of Jen's work below:

(all images from Apartment Therapy)

What I love about this room is how Jen uses everyday items and displays them in a way that it looks like art. The scarves, the purses, and hats seem more like room accessories, instead of fashion accessories.

 (Images from jenchudesign.com)

I love her style, it is so clean and chic! I also admire that she does a lot of the handy work herself, something I hope to be able to do one day. Who needs Ty Pennington when you can hang your own light fixtures? Who am I kidding, I wouldn't turn Ty away but you get my point!

To see more of Jen's work, including original art and learn about her career as an Art Director for Project Runway check out her blog.

Until next time!

Dee-Style: Paula Patton

New mother and actress Paula Patton looks amazing in this simple and classic ensemble.  I picked her for this week's look for less because I think this is a look most women can wear no matter what size you wear. The jacket and dress combo is flattering to all body types and can remixed with other items in your closet for a different look.

Here is the look for less in both plus and straight sizes. I will do more style posts like this because right now I'm smack dab in the middle. It is frustrating at times to be in between like this, but I'm learning to deal with it, and support designers and stores who promote size diversity and make clothing for women of all shapes and sizes!

Here is the look in straight sizes

And here is the look in plus sizes

My point is don't let ANYONE tell you that your styling options are limited because of your size. With a little effort, creativity, and confidence, you can find items out there that work for your body!

Until next time!

Homecoming, Homies, and the Holy Ghost Tent Revival

I had an amazing weekend with some of my favorite people! Friday night I met up with my friends Kerry and Rebecca for dinner and cheesecake from Cheesecakes by Alex, hands down the BEST cheesecake you'll ever put in your mouth! We also had dinner downtown at the Mellow Mushroom then met up with my other friends Brie and Michael. The plan was to see Holy Ghost Tent Revival perform at Lyndon Street Artworks.

Holy Ghost Tent Revival - Needing You from Will & Friends on Vimeo.

The band was supposed to go on at 11 but we spent most of the night in the parking lot meeting interesting characters, telling off-color jokes, and drinking beer. We never made it inside because, well I'm old...and I had to go to work the next morning

This is me bright eyed and ready for work after a few hours rest! I headed out to Everybody's Day Festival in Thomasville, NC. I was too busy working and meeting listeners to take any good pics, but I had a great time and enjoyed a yummy funnel cake!

When I got home, I was all set to sleep and watch my TV shows but I got a text from my line sister Dewaynia who was in town for homecoming with her new boyfriend. They were all hanging out downtown at a social hosted at a local bar Churchill's so I decided I'd go hang out for a couple hours. I ran into classmates and friends I hadn't seen in years, like this dynamic diva, my friend Jackie,

I also ran into my friend Dawn :)
We sat outside, laughing and joking so long, we didn't even realize everyone else was gone. This is what the club looked like when the 4 of us finally left.

We headed over to Fincastle's for fried pickles, burgers, dogs, and even more laughs.

One the way to our cars we found some chalk,  an open space on a wall went all preschool on it for the next few minutes

We finally made it back to my place, got dressed for the All Black (attire) Party and headed out. I need to apologize to my hairdresser for going out with my head looking like this. I wasn't planning on going to the party, and I don't want anyone thinking this do' was done by her....

I found this dress at Forever 21 for 17.80 The necklace was from NY and Company for $15.00

Here is a pic of me and my line sister Camilla at the bar isn't she lovely!!

We had so much fun together, dancing all night, laughing and catching up. I can't wait to see everyone again, hopefully we won't have to wait another year :)

Hope you had a great weekend too!

Dee-Style: Drew Barrymore

Let's face it, Drew Barrymore is one of the coolest chicks on the planet. Seriously, she's one of  few celebs I consider a FIMH (friend in my head).

Who wouldn't want to be friends with Drew? I mean minus the Poison Ivy period, and that laughable Amy Fischer TV movie, she hasn't made a movie I didn't like.

She charmed us as "Josie Grossie" in Never Been Kissed.
She kicked bad guy butt in the Charlie's Angels movies.

And in my favorite Drew Barrymore movie, she gave the Cinderella fairytale some much needed moxie in Ever After.

What I love about Drew is she can look like a million bucks on the red carpet at the Oscars, then turn around and wow the fashionistas with a simple every day look like the one below.

Drew wore this last month when she made an appearance on The Daily Show. The shirt is from Alternative Apparel, Ksubi Jeans, and YSL pumps. I'm sure the shoes alone cost over $500, but I  recreated the Dee-Style version for under $150!

Jacket: Deilia's 49.50
Jeans: Arden B $25
Hat: Forever 21 $14.80 (I have this myself)
Sunglasses: Forever 21 $5.80
T-Shirt: Wet Seal $10.99
Shoes: Forever 21 $22.80

Totally cute right? And it is flattering to women of ALL sizes. Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and go all out and wear the hat. I know a lot of women don't like to draw attention to themselves but I say why not? I know I'm going to rock mine! I hope you enjoyed my very first look for less!
Until next time,
Deidre

Steal of the Day

How cute is this dress?

I found it on Modcloth  for only $16. Yep, $16 bucks!

The dress was inspired by Tieka, the author of Selective Potential. I can't wait to try it on, I think it would be perfect for a date night or dinner party.

I'm really making an effort to step outside of my comfort zone by trying new styles and looks that I would normally shy away from. I love the vintage look of this dress and I hope I can find more like it.

Happy Labor Day!

Vampire Love & True Blood Giveaway

For being such a big ole’ scardey cat, I sure do love some vampire themed shows. First I was obsessed with Sarah Michelle Gellar and the rest of The Scooby Gang from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Nothing came between me and my beloved Buffy, I mean nothing. Once the apartment complex I lived in decided to cut corners and get some bootleg cable service for the entire complex that didn’t pick up the WB. Next day my bags were packed and my lease was terminated (It was Season 3 y’all, the one with Faith!).

I enjoyed the Buffy spin-off, Angel with David Boreanaz. And I adore the Salvatores from The Vampire Diaries on the CW.

My other bloody pleasure (eww that came out kinda gross) is True Blood. I got hooked on the HBO drama last summer. They took the dark vampy angle to another level. Within the 1st five minutes I was jumping from fear and shock, sitting on the edge of my couch terrified and intrigued by what would happen next. I completed the entire season with a mini-marathon that night, only leaving the house for more ice cream (cause that’s how I roll). Every Sunday at 9pm I am glued to the TV waiting to see what type of danger and drama awaits the town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Each Monday I go on the air shocked and awed asking our listeners “Can you believe what happened on True Blood last night?”
I almost lost my mind when our friends at HBO and Time Warner Cable came to the station to tell us True Blood’s highest ratings came from the Greensboro, NC market. As a thank you, from HBO and Time Warner, we get to host the True Blood Season 3 finale party! The evening will have red carpet coverage, a VIP reception, Q &A with members of the cast, then we will watch the season finale at the Carolina Theatre. It’s all going down next Sunday, September 12th. This event is invite only, but you can win tickets by listening to Rock 92 next week, being a fan on our facebook page, or through Time Warner Cable. This is going to be MAJOR and I am so grateful to be a part of it.

My friends keep asking me if I’m nervous about meeting the stars and my answer is always no, I’m more nervous about finding the right outfit to the party! These stars are going to look all kinds of hot and I need to be on top of my fashion game right?
Word on the streets, (streets being inside the studio of the radio station) is that the dress code is casual. I was so relieved to hear that because my first thought was “Where in the heck am I going to find some fancy dress in one week?” Instead I pieced together this look. I think it is casual, and fun, with a bad girl vibe.

I hope to see some of you there! Don’t forget to enter here for a chance to win tickets!

Until next time, Deidre

Vern Yip Talks To Dee-Tales

I chatted with Vern Yip, one of the judges of HGTV’s Design Star a few days ago. Vern has been wowing the masses with his innovative and aesthetically pleasing designs on television for nearly a decade. On TLC’s Trading Spaces, he was a fan favorite, often requested by families to transform their ho-hum homes into visually stunning and comfortable living areas. His ability to bring richness, function, and beauty into a home on a budget and under time constraints made him a household name in the home design community. After launching his line of home fashions, hosting his own HGTV show Deserving Design, Vern joined Design Star. Design Star gives decorators a chance to host their own on HGTV program by competing in a series of design challenges each week. Vern’s latest project is one that will surely garner the attention of all you Dee-Talers. HGTV is giving away a $1.5 million apartment unit in downtown Manhattan, designed by Vern! Dee-Style

I am not a fashionista. I'd love to be one of those glamourus bloggers who posts interesting outfits of the day and show you how to tie a scarf without choking yourself. I would like to be that knowledgeable, but that's not me.

I am a baller on a budget. I'm not a size 2. My boobies get in the way of  many of my wardrobe wants, and my muffin top is now a bagel (but I'm working on that).

My point is, shopping for me can be difficult, so I am on a quest to find flattering, affordable, and stylish clothes. I used to roam the aisles of Target and Old Navy looking for clothes that fit me and I left with the same things each time, V-neck tops, and boot cut jeans. I never took risks. I didn't know women over a size 10 had more clothing options, stylish, well made, affordable options.

I would totally rock this outfit anywhere and feel completely comfortable in it. The purple cardigan has rich  color and the floral print of the dress is very feminine. I chose the knee boots to add a little rugged sophistication to the outfit.  The floppy hat is pure drama, but depending on where you are or what you're doing, it could be used to shield the sun from your face, keep your head warm in a breeze, or hide the fact that you missed your salon visit last week! I loved the butterfly ring (I have one myself) because it is unique and it compliments the floral print in the dress.

So each week on Dee-Tales I will share my fashion finds with you! If you have any questions or if you need help locating items to create a certain look shoot me an email: Deidre@mydeetales.com

Until next time!
